Car repo? and now fees coming out of nowhere?

My fiance got his car repo'd because he was behind about $400, (yes I know, irresponsible, but he was in a tough financial situation since the company he worked for shut down) he was told to western union the bank what he owed them, then they would give him the info on where his car is being stored and he could go pick it up after he pays them the storage fee which is $25.00 per day. Well he paid the balance that he owed on the car and called the bank and now they tell him he has to western union another $400 for the repo fee, fine whatever, I think that should be someone that is stated up front but fine, so there's another day we have to wait and now today we paid that and called the number and they tell us that we have to pay $260 in storage fees and the car has been there 8 days at the most, well now they tack on another "administrative" fee. I just don't understand how they keep making us wait, and it is making the storage fee get higher and higher, is there anything we can do????

  1. No, because unfortunately once you get your car repo'd it can be a long process.  I don't know what state you live in or where you bought your car from, but they should have stored the repo'd car at thier lot, and once you get back up with your owed payments, you should be able to get the car back, if they think you will be more responsible.  My dad works at a bad-credit-car place where repos happen quite often, bottom line is they shouldn't be storing the car somewhere, they should be storing it at the store.  You can sue them, but since you didn't pay to begin with, the likelihood of the judge giving you a break isn't that great of a chance.

    Sorry :(

  2. Unfortunately you have crossed over to the dark side.

And yes what they are doing is very unfair, you are in fact trying to pay, but what happens is when a bank releases property (car, house, boat, etc)  they have already written it off, and while you may have good intentions, there are another 150 people who say they will pay, and western union, pick the car tmrw, etc and never do. But just end up wasting more time, then if they get the car back they default in three months.

The only thing you can do is if you get your car back, write a letter to the compliance officer in the bank and ask for refunds on excessive fees.  But fees being charged are real fees the bank has paid to other companies for repo and storage, so you probably will not have any luck there.

  3. Sorry, you have to pay, no way out of it.

  4. I've never had a car repo'ed before but it sound SHADY at best that they need money by Western Union! You need to contact police...

  5. This is pretty normal.  You have to pay the expenses for the repo, storage, and possibly any transport fees for auction.

Just wait until you the car sells at auction.  You will also end up owing the difference between your loan amount and what the car sells for at auction.

Sorry...but this should all be in the paperwork you or your fiance signed when you agreed to make payments on the vehicle.

  6. hmmm, western union? i would contact someone like the police about that. thats weird that a professional service uses that.
