Question:

Car repossession, do I have to tell them...?

I had a car that was repossessed. Long story but I bought it for my daughter and she stopped paying on it. Anyway, I know since it's in my name I am responsible for whatever is owed on it. I am going to call them today to set up payment arrangements. What I am wondering is do I have to tell them where I work? I know they are going to ask and I don't really want to tell them because I don't want them harrassing me later if I am ever late paying or something. Can I refuse to tell them and also do they have a way of finding out where I work?

  1. You seem to think that they will accept your proposal for a payment plan.  That seems unlikely as they already had to repo once.  And there is no chance they are going to release the car on a promise to pay from someone who won't tell them where he works.

  2. They already have the car? If you want to get it back, you should answer all their questions and teach your Daughter some responsibility. They may check your employment before giving the car back.

  3. No you do not have to give them any information such as that. If they will accept payments then try to work with them on that so that they don't garnish your check because then they can take a large amount. And they can only find out where you work from your credit report. View it and see if it shows your employment.  Good luck!

  4. The problem is they are in the driver’s seat, they do not have to agree to a payment plan and can seek to sue your for the full amount due and owing tomorrow, get a judgment then attached to your bank accounts or wages

So you will have to convince them to take the payment plan over court
