  1. How about driving through the night?  That way your son will sleep through.  It's a 2 day drive though isn't it?  You could always take shifts driving and just try to get there as quickly as possible.  Taking plenty of breaks to walk around.  Good luck!!

  2. Cat: put the cat in a cat carrier with food and water, and place in back of car, or back seat, maybe cover 1 side with towel. This will keep the cat calm, feeling safe and not under your feet at the pedals.

Kid: plan it around nap or sleeping times, maybe even drive all night instead of the day. bring many bags of snacks, cheerios, etc. many sippy cups and such. and not sure how many hours trip is, but plan gas and bathroom breaks with the kids diaper changes.

  3. You can get him some toys so that he can be distracted playing with them while you go ahead and drive. Eventually he will get tired and go to sleep or get hungry in which case stop to have a snack. If you like to find some good toys like the ones I used to with my kids here is the web site I bought them from they deliver very fast, I think I drove longer than what they sent it to me.

  4. I would buy a portable DVD player and the straps that hold it between your seats. These are great on any long trips and keep your little one entertained with their favorite cartoons.

  5. Not sure how far this is, but I drove 14 hours with my boys, 3 and 1. We had DVD players that attached to the back of the front seats, so they watched movies. We took plenty of different snacks and drinks as well. Stop as often as you need to and don't rush back into the car. Let him stretch and play a little. I also a couple small new toys that I pulled out when they got really fussy. Good luck!

  6. start driving at nap time, and stop and go inside somewhere to eat dinner.

  7. We drove to NYC when my daughter was almost 2. We attached one of those activity pockets from Jolly Jumper on the back of the front seat so she had access to lots of toys and books..plus a dvd player with her favourite videos really helped pass the time. Then we also sang a lot of her favourite songs. Good luck!

  8. We once took a metal cake pan, and put little animals, magnets, small toys etc in zipper bags, then every so often would give our son something new in the cake pan (helps avoid them falling to the ground immediately).  Introducing new, wrapped things every few hours or so helps a lot, as well as plenty of fun, new snacks (maybe stuff you wouldn't normally give? We're pretty healthy, so fur us its things like "junkier" crackers, etc).

Band-aids are fun, and they take some time to unwrap, peel, and stick.

Another idea are those magnet toys, with farm scenes, etc.

Magic coloring: the themed pads of paper that they run the invisible marker over and pictures appear - awesome!

    Good luck!

  9. Leave the house at bedtime. He will sleep through the night.

However, when I went on an 8 hour plane ride I took Tylenol Pm.

Check with your doctor about a sleeping aid that will help him sleep if he is excited.

If you want him to stay up then consider investing in portable dvd player for him to watch movies and listen to music.
