  1. The head rest will need to be on at all times for the child's safety....

  2. If the head rest is too low, either move it up or remove it.  If his head is still wobbly, you can use receiving blankets rolled up tightly to support it.  He will probably get used to it though and be holding it a little more steady soon.

  3. The infant insert just keeps his head from flopping around. You DO NOT have to use it.

You can use tightly rolled receiving blankets to accomplish the same thing. Nothing should go under his head (unless it came with the seat) or between him & the harness.

  4. yeah i would its there for a reason and your babies neck is really not strong enough to support his head, some times what you think is squashed is cosy for babies!

  5. How do you remove a head rest from a rear-facing baby seat?  Sorry, I do not understand how that is possible.  Are you sure you are talking of a baby seat?

I can't imagine not supporting an infant's head properly.  Height-wise, baby's head should be one inch or more below the top of the car seat when rear-facing.  You aren't already using a front-facing seat, I hope.  A rear-facing seat should be used up to 1 year and 20 lbs, longer if possible.

I looked at the Maxi Cosi.  I presume you are talking of the Cosi Dozi insert.  Removing that would be a safety concern in the event of an accident, I would think. It was designed for the comfort and support of a smaller baby, up to about 5 months, sooner if he grows quickly.

Best of luck to you and your child.

  6. You can use rolled receiving blankets to brace his head a bit more.
