Question:

Car speakers not working correctly?

My car speakers are really weird. I have a 1999 pontiac grand prix with 4 after-market speakers installed. The 6x9's in the back are giving me the trouble. They used to have great quality sound and great bass when i first got them, but now there is almost no bass and the sound crackles. I thought they were blown, but when i adjust the sound to only come out of the right of left side of the car, the bass pumps back up and regains its former quality.

Are the speakers blown or is there some other problem?

  1. check da connections mayb they arent wired rite 2 each other or they mite b blown

  2. i wouldnt think they are blown if they start to sound "great" after you messed with the stereo.

but to be sure they are not blown, gently push on the cone down. if it moves very soft then that means the speaker is ok.

if it moves a bit too hard.. that means it might be bad

if it moves a bit hard and theres a "scratchy" feeling while pushing the cone down.. that means the coil is blown. this can happen due to too much bass/distorted signal for a long time.

but my guess will be a loose wire connection at the speaker. make sure they are tightly in, clean, and no dirt/oil on them.
