  1. My buddy had very good results with a pioneer 3 ways in his escort gt.  Pioneer head unit, nothing fancy but the detail in the mid range was fantastic and bass was punchy.  Make sure you get speakers that are intended not to be used with a separate amp or you'll lose a lot of volume.

  2. for upfront speakers i always use components, specially a good brand. in my opinion, its better to spend atleats on one good set of components atleats for the front of the vehicle because this will add a whole different level of quality and clarity to any build. it will bring together all the rest of the notes pretty good and give a surround sound effect when placed correctly.

the best bang for the buck will be MB Quart components.

they are capable of getting pretty loud, have good bass, and great sound quality.

but if that brand is too expensive for you, check around other component brands. they all are much better than the other speakers.

but to get the best of them, as with any other speaker type, u will need a small amp.

  3. if you don't ever plan to add an amp to those speakers i would not go with the components because they require more wattage than most radios can push out so they would sound distorted at volumes over halfway (maybe before that)

i like to match brands because usually they have the same frequency response, the same sensitivity, and produce the same quality of sound
