I have a 1996 honda civic and am currently experiencing a slight problem with my speakers. I have two 6.5 inch polk speakers in the front of my car and two 6 x 9 pioneer speakers in the back. The polk speakers have a 60 watt rms and 180 watt peak and the pioneers have a 40 watt rms and a 300 watt peak. They are currently being powered by my cd player which is a jvc kd-pdr80 which has 20 watt rms power for each speaker and 50 watt peak. my problem is that when i center the sound to be directly in the middle and turn up the bass the speakers start to pop, but if i fade the sound directly to the back with the same bass and volume the speakers dont pop and if i fade it to the front with the same stuff the speakers dont pop. It only pops when both front and back speakers are being used. Could this be caused by not having enough power?

  1. I could be having to much power or not enough power it kinda hard to determine what to do. I had the same problem I had to put a crossover in and only allowed a limited amount of power to the front speakers and this stopped the problem. Try and us a power EQ that will allow you to power the front and rear speakers separate.

  2. You need to get a small amp to help push all that power, your trying to push too much with too little. With your speakers being different watts your pushing too many different levels on the same frequency.

  3. if your speakers pop it most likely means you listen too them too loud and too frequently. (Over use)

  4. You are overworking your poor radio.

    Give the radio a break.

The radio can power 4 average sized speakers ok.  But if you got larger power speakers, turn up the bass, power the 4 speakers and turn up the volume,... Well, the radio is getting Mad cause you makin it work too hard

(when you power just the 2 speakers, front or rear, it can power them easyer cause less speakers.)
