I left my sunroof cracked open during a rain and of course rain water leaked on to my dash. The radio was acting real weird so I tried to turn it of and it would not turn off. I was able to park it in side and leave the windows down for a couple of days to dry it out, and that seemed to help some. The right front channel is not working. With the exception of the RF speaker it will work ok for a while, then the radio / cd will stop and a super high pitched screatching with start from the...RF speaker. Turning the radio off doesn't stop it. Many times when I turn the car completely off, about 5 seconds later the high pitch scream will start come from the RF speaker. It doesn't do this all the time.

Does anyone know what this is?

I could see the radio compleatly going out as a result of getting wet, but this seems real weird.

My guess is some sort of short in the head unit, if so could it or would it be worth it to try and get it fixed?

Thanks!

  1. simple- its toast

  2. well im sorry to say that water dmg to electronics is difficult it sounds like something has shorted and theres possibly still some water inside the head unit, unless it is a very expensive head unit i would recomend replacement, the other thing you can try is takin out the head unit and sealing it in a plastic container on top of rice, kinda like rice in a salt shaker it will suck the moisture out of the unit, i've done it to a few cell phones, but if that doesnt work and theres no warranty you might have to just replace it, or if its still under warranty play the dummy card, "i dont know what happened, it just quit working and making weird noises"

  3. depends on the unit ,if its worth getting repaired,if it was a cheap unit chuck it and get a new one,it is more than likely water damaged and may even be way too costly too repair.
