Car stereo only goes off when you turn on the headlights?!?!?!?

My friend just told me that his car stereo only shuts off when you turn on the headlights. It doesn't even shut off when you turn the car off. The person who installed it cut the wires. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you!

There is only 1 thing to do to correct this, who ever cut the wires needs to pay an actual car audio installer to fix his error. That is so not cool, always by an adaptor never cut wires. Cutting wires just shows that you do not know what your doing.

The stereo is connected to either to wrong power wire or ground. It should be connected to power that is turned on with the key switch but is maybe connected to a wire that goes to the lighting system. Try to find a wiring diagram on crutchfield.com.

Wow...can we all say, connected the wrong wires during installation?  This should be investigated to correct.

NEVER cut wires to install al stereo. You ALWAYS get an adapter harness that plugs right into the factory harness.

It sound like it was hooked up to the dimmer hot wire to the stereo.
