Question:

Car stereo system question--My left subwoofer in my encased box doesnt work???

I have a dual enclosed box with 2 12" subs. (I think they are 400 watts each?).

Today I checked and the left one doesn't work!! I do not know how to tell if I blew it, or maybe a wire is loose or something?

If it is screwed, can I buy a new one and just pop in the same spot and connect wires??? Or do I need to get rid of the whole box (with the right speaker that works still) and buy new ones??

Thanks

  1. Its probably just a loose connection or a fuse. If a sub is blown then you will have to replace it with an identical sub to match the other one playing. just pull the old one out and plop the new one in. If they are both blown you can buy a new pair as long as the two new ones match.

    1. First thing is always to check for good connections.

    2. See if you can find any blown fuses

    3. Check the amp for connections and fuses

    4. Check the subs. you can buy a multimeter at any hardware store for about $15, set it to Ohms and if its at 0 or --- then your sub is blown, if it sais 4 ohms or 2ohms or somthing like that then its still good.

  2. push on the sub slowly and not to hard if you feel any crunching its blown. It can also be a loose wire check the speaker wire going to the amp into the box and inside. Yes you can just put in a new sub stick with the same brand if only changing the one or do both your choice.
