My car was stolen a month ago from my school parking lot on last day of class. I called the police and had it reported. I had a classmate and his girlfriend drive me home. I told the adjuster what happened. I also filled out all of the necessary paperwork. Now he is saying he needs the statements from the two people that drove me home. I gave the adjuster the two people's phone numbers. But I think they are now out-of-state and he said they have not answered when he calls and its delaying my claim..What do I do?? What do they have to do with my car claim?? How long can he delay my claim?

The DOI said insurance co. must complete their investigation. The guy who gave me a ride home had recently spoken to him and has given a statement but the girl has not she has told me shes been busy. I cant believe what I am going through, this is very stressful. I understand it was my car but is this my job? I have a busy life 2 jobs and school.

  1. Why would your female friend not answer to the insurance agent?  Claiming that she has been busy would arouse suspicion.  The adjusters only spend about 10-15 minutes asking questions if that.  With the era of mobile phones and multi-tasking, she doesn't have the time to answer his questions?  Get her on the phone, and ask her DIRECTLY why she has not made a statement.

  2. Until they complete the investigation, that can't settle with you.  It's your friend that is slowing the process.  Talk to said friend to find out why she won't spend the time to answer a few questions so you can be compensated for your loss.

  3. You've answered your own question.  It is obvious that your friend is holding things up.  You should be asking her to speak with the adjuster.  Insurance companies are very careful with stolen cars and especially so with cars owned/reported by young drivers.

  4. first don't place blame on the adjuster.  he is doing his job.  he is investing your claim and until he speaks to your "friend" you probably aren't going to get your claim settled.  maybe you should speak to HER and let her know how important it is.
