My car was stolen a month ago from my school parking lot on last day of class. I called the police and had it reported. I had a classmate and his girlfriend drive me home. I told the adjuster what happened. I also filled out all of the necessary paperwork. Now he is saying he needs the statements from the two people that drove me home. I gave the adjuster the two people's phone numbers. But I think they are now out-of-state and he said they have not answered when he calls and its delaying my claim..What do I do?? What do they have to do with my car claim?? How long can he delay my claim?

  1. You call those two people, and tell them to call the adjuster back.

He isn't delaying your claim.  He's trying to pull it together.

  2. Depending on what state you are in, some insurers have 90 days, some have 6 months, etc.  If I were you I would call back your insurance company and tell them that you will complain to the DOI if they wouldn't pay for your car.  but make sure to check the timeframe that they have before closing your claim.

If you live in CA, below is the link to the website of the dept of insurance.  If you live in other state, you can just google "department of insurance" then look for the state that you live in.  You can directly complain through the website.

    I hope this helps.
