First off let me tell you that I am driving an suv (2002 Dodge Durango). I want to either get a Polk Audio db1212 or a Polk Audio db1222. I know the db1222 is loud but I was thinking of getting the db1212 instead because I think it would be loud aswell and it would save me space in my vehicle. So what I am asking is which one is better? Has anybody listened to or have either of these subs? Here are the links to the subs:

1. db1212: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=510&i=107DB1212&tp=112

2. db 1222:

  1. If you are looking to put some bass in your truck but do not want to spend a lot of money I would suggest getting the single sub.  That should be plenty of bass for most people.

Getting the dual setup will result in louder bass but not really that much louder.  Just so you know, everytime you double the cone area you will recieve up to a 3 db increase.  Also, everytime you double the power you will recieve a 3 db increase at most.  So by upgrading to the second one and doubling the power you feed it you will only get a 6 db increase at MOST.  That is a theoretical number so you will gain even less than that.  Basically you are not adding much loudness by getting the dual setup.  You would hear it but it is so minor it isn't really that worth spending money on.  So by just getting a single sub you will be spending your money better.

I have heard the dual setup and would say that it is not bad for the price.  However, I would NOT recommend it if you are looking for loudness.  It does not get very loud but it does sound pretty good and has some decent sound quality.  Polk is not a brand you want to go with if you are looking for loudness.  Look at Kicker for straight up loudness.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. get mtx better its way cheaper in price and brings deeper bass

  3. As I feel Polk is a quality choice, I feel the price is a little on the high side for the performance potential.  I feel you could try something such as a Fi SSD, or Dayton HO sub(s) and build your own box and get more performance for less money.

  4. Wow, that's a pretty good sensitivity rating.  That first one should be fine especially when you feed it the recommended RMS power.

As far as MTX goes, I don't think they are great either, but they do get loud.

  5. I drive a 2000 Durango (same body style as yours). Since they are the same sub and the difference is just one or two subs its really your choice. I feel like i should tell you though that those subs are fairly overpriced for what you are getting. I would personally recommend going with some Kicker CompVR Series subwoofers. Not only are they cheaper, but you'll get more output.

  6. if you are going to do the audio thing then go big or don't do it at all so I say go with the polkaudio db1222.

  7. deep bass takes a lot more then just a sub.  And as far as I'm concerned MTX sucks something terrible.  Anyway, the difference between the 1212 and the 1222 is there's two in one and only one in the other.  One is 6 db louder then the other at the same impedance, so it will actually be 6 db louder.  So, if you drop down to the single sub from the two, you will loose 6 db.  As far as which one is better ... they're the same d**n thing.  There's just two subs in the one box and only one in the other.  Which one is better depends on your situation.  Sounds like you want to save some space so for you I guess one would be better.
