Car tags when moving question?

If I am moving out-of-state to live in a dorm, do I have to change me tags if the car is in my moms name (I know I have to change me license). The state is Louisiana if anyone needs to know that. Please help, any info will help, thanxs

  1. Unless you intend to stay and become a permanent resident in the state where you go to college, you don't have to change anything.


  2. As long as you are a student and not a full time resident of the state you do not need to change your drivers license or license plates or insurance. You only need to change these when your permanent residence changes.

  3. Here is the test.  Do you pay out of state tuition to the college?  If so, you are not a resident and don't need to change anything over.  If you claim residency to get reduced tuition, you must change everything to your new address, you just established yourself as a resident of the state.
