Question:

Car totaled...monthly premium due in a few days. Do I have to pay?

I was in an accident where my car with all likelihood is totaled. Now I've been waiting for two days for the claim adjuster to call and finally reached them only to be told that I was transferred to another adjuster. Problem is, that I won't get a hold of them until the day that my new monthly premium payment is due. Would my insurance payment be on "hold" so to speak considering I don't have a car and I have a potential total loss claim in the works?

  1. might as well pay.  If they total your car, insurance will have stopped on the day you wrecked, and you'll get that money back.

When you pay the insurance company, it's still your money, it's just an advance payment on days of insurance you may (or may not) use.  If you cancel the insurance for instance they only charge you the number of days the policy was active and give you back the rest of the money.

  2. Do whatever you have to do to make your payment on time !!!  You will be credited the money towards you next vehicle. If you let it expire, you may not have a valid claim !  Pay it early so as not to be late and allow them to cancel you !!!  This is very important !  You will get your money back one way or the other !!   Good luck !!

  3. Yes, you need to pay the premium unless you wish to cancel the policy.  I would pay it.  If they total your car, the premium will be returned to you.

  4. play it safe and pay it. don't chance it, and never trust an insurance company. it's a claim adjuster's job to save the co.'s money, and they have always been known for using less than honest tactics. i own a bodyshop and have been in the business for over 25 yrs, and have seen it all.

  5. Yes, you still need to pay the payment. Just keep on the ins company so they can get the claim closed and get you money to pay off the car asap.
