Earlier today when I was driving my Brake light came on. Shortly after that I was having trouble starting my car. I would have to mash on the gas just to get it to move then it would sputter and eventually it just cut off. Thankfully I was outside of my house when it did. I got some brake fluid but do you think that is why my car is cutting off. I just need it to go about 10 blocks so I can get it inspected but I'm afraid it won't make it. So the question is could needing brake fluid or having bad brake fluid a cause for my car cutting off???

  1. thats pretty unlikely, sounds more of and engine problem, perhaps your fuel line is blocked, that could explain why you have to push the gas so hard to move just a little and could also cause the car to shut off or sputter then shut off (I'm assuming the sputtering is similar to if you ran out of gas while driving)

  2. hi.. dont hate me after what i hv to say.. your brake lights came on because the reservoir was low.. because the brake pads are about to go thin and needs replacement very soon if not , now. and it has nothing to do with the other problem that it would sputter.. could be a fuel filter needs to be replaced.. with the filter clugged up, your lucky to go above 30miles per hour then sputter again.. get about 300 bucks ready for repairs.

  3. could be a few different things spark plugs, Ignition coil (or coil pack depending on the car) fuel filter, fuel pump, or air filter.  I'd start with spark plugs, air filter, or fuel filter.  start with the cheapest/simplest and work your way up.
