OK SO MY CAR WAS STOLEN FRI NIGHT THE POLICE CAUGHT THE IDIOTS THAT STOLE IT I HAVE NOT SEEN MY CAR AS OF YET BUT SOME GIRLS PARENTS CALLED THE SHERIFFS OFFICE CLAIMING SHE HAD NO IDEA ABOUT IT BEING STOLEN AND THAT SHE LEFT HER IPOD IN THERE AND WANTED IT BACK. WTF? CAN SHE LEGALLY EVEN GET IT BACK AFTER TAKING A "JOY RIDE" IN MY FREAKING CAR?

  1. Anything left in the vehicle would either be taken as evidence or yours.  How could that person ever prove it was theirs?

  2. Probably, but check with the police just to be sure. The iPod could be stolen property and in that case, you wouldn't want to be in possession of it!

  3. Keeping it would be theft.  Do not lower yourself to the level of the person who had taken your vehicle.  Return the IPOD and live a better life.

  4. It will not (or should not) become your property. You can formally apply for restitution rather than just take stuff.

It is possible (but unlikely) that the girl was unaware she was riding in a stolen vehicle.

If the property is legally the girl's property, then it's hers. Any allegation of her criminal misconduct does not change that.

  5. So just go ahead and take the IPOD down to the police station.  You keeping it will just create more headaches for you.  Think of it this way...the IPOD was likely stolen, so really, it would be in your best interest to take it to the PD.

  6. give it back, what are you going to do with it, be thankful you got the car back in one piece, let the law deal with them.

  7. tell her first she needs to pay for the gas she burned on the joyride

  8. No, it does not become yours. The contents of the car would be inventoried, and the property needs to be accounted for. My guess is the deputy will give it back to her.
