Question:

Car will not start right away... Why?

I own a 2004 Suzuki Verona LX. No issues except for probably a year or so, when I got to start my car and turn the key, it takes 1-5 seconds to start. If I push the gas pedal down it will start much quicker, otherwise it can take up to 5 seconds. It just makes the turning over noise. One othe rminor issue a few times it has stalled while idling, but this has literally been very rare...

Thanks

  1. you probably need to tune it up and change the gas filter on it when the plugs get a few miles on them they become a little hard to start, and it gets worse with time,id change the plugs and gas filter along with the air filter and see if that helps it,that should take care of it,good luck.

  2. Probably fuel filter.  If your car were older I would have said fuel pump.  Although your car is still fairly new it could still be the fuel pump.

Engines work just like a fire.  There's only three aspects that make them run.  Fuel, Fire (spark), and air.  This problem definitely sounds like it is a fuel problem.

Fuel filters are cheap and can be replaced by just about any place that can change your oil.  I'd try that and if it didn't work I'd probably just let it go until it gets worse.  An extra second or two of cranking the engine isn't going to hurt anything.  It could stay like this for years and years.  (or I guess it could get worse tomorrow but no sense in looking at the down side of things)

  3. i have the same problem, happens when i make short trips to the store or gas stations, but my car is a 95 honda civic.  i had my fuel filter changed not long ago when this problem started.  so i guess it could be the fuel pump.  or maybe the starter.  it it helps, when i have this problem, sometimes i turn my steering wheel to the left while trying to start my car and it starts.
