there is a car that i was thinking about buying until i found out that it has a salvaged title. it wasn't salvaged because it was in an accident but because someone broke into it and took their seats and their radio. is it still a bad idea to buy it just because it has a salvaged title? they are asking 5,500 and it is a 2006 saturn ion with 26,000 miles. should the price be even lower since it was salvaged??

  1. I run a new car dealership and when a customer trades in a car with a salvage title it is worth about half of what a similar car with similar miles and equipment would be worth.  No matter the reason for being a salvage, you at some point will need to sell it and it will be a salvage then too.

  2. I would never buy a car that already have a salvaged title because of the resale value and it is not safe.

  3. Hard to believe that they would salvage for seats and a radio.

You need to investigate that claim but also get the vehicle checked over. $5500 is alot to pay for a vehicle that you may not be able to insure and you  don't know the history. Be very wary of this one.

  4. Rebecka; Salvage Title is just what it means, whether it restored or not. Here are the facts:

Banks lend 80% on used cars. Salvage vehicles; Maybe 50%

Vehicle value: Salvage vehicles are worth 50% of Retail.

If you purchase this Auto, be prepared to drive the wheels off it,

250,000 miles to get Return on Investment. It won't make it.

Find an individual with a exceptional Used Car for sale. Take the VIN Vehicle Identification Number and run a CarFax.

About $10.00 Then haggle about price. Ask for service records.

My advice: Stay away from this one. Reason - May be shoddy repairs. Who knows how the thieves drove this vehicle before recovery. Ex: In access of 100 MPH. Possible engine damage that will show up after you purchase it.
