It just keeps on turning over... it won't actually start though.

I replaced the starter, the battery is good, alternator is good.

The car is a 96 Nissan Maxima, Twin Cam 3.0L

So...what else could it be? Please HELP!!!! I need a car!

  1. have to make sure your getting fuel and spark and that will let you know were to go from there

  2. May be your distributor. Check if its getting spark. One way to do that is (with the keys out of the ignition) to take the spark plug wires (ignition wires) out and set them on the valve cover (your engine) and stick a screwdriver into each individual spark plug wire's end. With the screwdriver in there try to start the car while NOT touching the screwdriver. If you have spark (you'll either see it spark or the electricity will move the screwdriver, just look) then its not your distributor, if you dont then it is time to get a new distributor. have someone help you observe. be careful and good luck.

DISCLAIMER: you may get hurt so try this at your own risk.

  3. Is it getting fuel,is it getting spark,if so check the timing belt/chain

  4. As the previous person said there are only a few items.  If it turns over very fast as compared to normal, it is likely to be the timing belt.  Otherwise, bring it to a mechanic and let him/her figure it out.

It could be something simple if you have been trying to start it for a long time.  For example, when you crank the motor it dumps gas into the cylinders.  If it does not start, the gas eventually washes the oil away from the rings and you would have no compression....therefore a no start condition.

  5. If the starter motor is turning but no pre fire noise, I would start with a wire off the distributor from the coil to the cover.

Else you have no fuel, either out of gas or the fuel pump is not feeding gas to the injectors.

that is where i would start looking.
