Hi. The car is a 2002 (or 2003?) mitsubishi montero sport. A few months ago a bad noise started occuring and I realized that when the AC was off the noise was was gone. Shortly after the AC actually stopped blowing cold air, but pressure will come out of the vent if it's turned on. Been driving it around with the air off, however shortly after a new noise began. Its pretty bad. Almost sounds like a scraping, no noise when car is idle, and seems worse while in reverse. This has been going on for a while and recently was told by a mechanic who only quickly eyed under the hood, that it was a broken AC compressor. (it has not been worked on yet, was waiting for proper finances). Now however it will not start, or actually i can get it to start but then it quickly dies. No lights were left on to cause the battery to run low. Can anyone help me diagnose what may be happening. Are the battery and AC problem connected. Side note, I am trying to start it with a spare key, could this affect it?

  1. the compressor could be seizing up on it and causing it to stall out..but the spare key thing is a definete possibility too. if the origional has a diode in it for security purposes.
