Im pretty sure my problem is a vacuum leak.. I've got a 300SD Turbo diesel Mercedes, same day the brakes pretty much stopped working, i slam on em and it barely does anything, and the car wont shut off, i have to open the hood and push the stop engine lever... We've tried following the lines to see where the vaccuum pressure stops. We've also rebuilt the vacuum pump but no no avail... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Im sure this would cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed professionally, im pretty mechanically inclined as well as a few great friends.. Any suggestions or past experiences appreciated thanks

  1. I think you have two diffrent problems the first is electrical do all your lights stay on on the dash when you turn your key off most lickly a ignition cylinder if lights all go out probably the switch and for the brakes if not a rotten hose probably the vacume booster itself

  2. a vacuum leak could cause that problem and so could a faulty ignition switch.  If the ignition switch is not breaking the contact it could cause that problem too.
