Car won't start 1999 bmw 328i

i have a simular problem i just brought a bmw 328is and it had no head unit in, i checked the wiring before puttin the radio in and there was a resistor on the live wire, i didnt think i needed it so cut it out and now when the radio is attatched the car wont fire but when i take the radio out it fires now and then. Do you think its to do with the resistor? Or just a fluke and something more serious? Thanks
