Caracortado under Joe Talamo is declared as the winner of Del Mar Mile Handicap 2011
California’s most notable horse racing event held every year in the last week of August, Del Mar Mile Handicap has declared Caracortado as the title winner this year. The Grade II race was held at the Del Mar Racetrack which is located at Del Mar California.
The four-year-old American horse, ran phenomenally against his five contenders, and gave an amazing hit.
The champ previously raced against the famous Acclamation in the Grade Eddie Read Stakes, held at the same venue on 23rd of July, 2011, and finished third.
Prior to that at the Hollywood Park, he stood second in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes, against William Mott’s Courageous Cat.
After winning the purse of $500,000 in the Sunshine Millions Turf with jockey J Talmo, in the beginning of the year 2011, he has again grabbed the spotlight by giving a hit in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile Handicap.
With jockey J Talamo, Caracortado, the chestnut gelding, was quick from the beginning of the race. His swiftness led him throughout the competition and soon with his amazing performance he reached the wire in 1 minute and 34.24 seconds.
Son of Cat Dreams out of Mons Venus, became a big competition for Mr. Commons and Calimonco.
Trainer J Shirreffs' three-year-old colt, Mr. Commons, tried his level best to be the first one to reach the wire, but he was not lucky enough to do so. Under jockey M Smith the colt finished second in the race.
Calimonco, finishing third in the race, was right behind Mr. Commons. The five-year-old horse was ridden by jockey V. Espinoza.
He tried his level best to compete with the other contenders, but managed to stay third that evening.
Victory Pete who has not been lucky after his last victory in 2009, finished fourth with jockey R Bejarano.
Trainer A Barba’s Victory Pete finished third in the Wickerr held last month on the same date against trainer J Sadler’s Calimonco who finished first in that event.
Trainer R. Mandella’s Champ Pegasus, who was the winner of Grade 2 San Luis Obispo on 19th February, 2011, finished fifth under jockey J. Rosario.
Trainer J. Hollendorfer’s six-year-old gelding Our Nautique was the last one to reach the wire, under jockey M. Pedroza.
Nautique was left behind by his other five contenders and lost the race very badly.
Trainer M. Machowsky’s, Caracortado was declared as the title winner of the race this year, with his phenomenal performance he won the purse of $ 400,000.
