Question:

Carbon credits - today's modern equivalent to "Indulgences"?

In the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church figured out a way to increase revenue - by selling "indulgences", allowing people to sin without fear of actually going to h**l.

Today, eco-activists are attempting to sell us "carbon credits" - which allows us to continue destroying the environment ("sin") without having the face the guilt associated with it...

Are carbon credits as ridiculous and fraudulent as Indulgences once were?
