  1. CO  - carbon monoxide

    OCO - carbon dioxide

carbon monoxide is in car exaust

    made when you burn fuel

carbon dioxide is what you breathe out

    - it's made as a byproduct of respiration

doesn't take long to make either of them

  2. Carbon monoxide is CO

    Carbon dioxide is CO2

CO is commonly found in the combustion engine of a vehicle.

CO2 is the product of respiration.

CO is formed when they is limited oxygen when burning. You can see that it differs from CO2 because of that 1 oxygen atom.

Making them is easy and quick. Burning something with limited oxygen produces CO and burning with excess oxygen produces carbon dioxide.

  3. CO is carbon monoxide

It is formed by the burning of carbon or fossil fuels in limited amounts of oxygen.

It can easily be made in the lab by reacting methanoic acid with concentrated sulphuric acid.

It is very toxic and particularly dangerous because it is colourless and odourless.

    CO2 is carbon dioxide

It forms when carbon or fossil fuels are burned in excess oxygen.

It can easily be made in the lab by reacting a carbonate with a dilute acid.

It is not toxic ... though you could be suffocated by a build-up of the gas which would limit oxygen supply.
