Carbonated water?

I drink carbonated water regularly and I am also trying to leave less of a carbon footprint. I am careful to try and leave as little environmental impact as possible. Will giving up the carbonated water actually reduce the amount of carbon I am leaving behind?

  1. Well in all likelihood, the amount of CO2 from carbonated drinks is small in comparison to the amount of CO2 released by cars and factories.

In fact, the main problem is the release of CO2 into the atmosphere is faster than the plants of the world, including the rain forests, can recycle.  And deforestation doesn't help much either.

There is probably a safe margin for CO2 release that carbonated drinks can easily handle, but with cars and factories spewing all this CO2, and not using renewable energy sources, then that takes us beyond the safe margin.

  2. No using carbonated products is good for the health of the trees and grass in your neighborhood. Get all of your local businesses to replace those nasty dry chemical fire extinguishers with the greener Co2 ones that do not pollute everything and besides have you ever seen the mess dry chemical ones leave to be cleaned up. Also use dry ice instead of water ice because it leaves no cold water behind to dispose of.

  3. Like aynything one consumes it most likely has a carbon footprint - think of the manufacturing process in a large factory, the transport footprint of moving the product to the grocery store, you then most likely use some form of vehicle to get to the store, and then there is the recycling of the bottle (which while great, still requires a lot of energy and fuel for such a process to run).  So while I think there are numerous other things that would leave a larger carbon footprint, I do believe that giving up carbonated water would reduce your actual carbon footprint if you did not simply switch to something else bottled, but perhaps gave tap water a try?

  4. Yes, if you don't switch to something else that comes in plastic packaging.
