Question:

Carburetor is leaking out the overflow what should i do?

I have a 1986 Yamaha 225 dirt bike that im having a little trouble with every time i ride it it leaks gas out of the overflow im kinda new at this so any suggestions. Starts every time but just leaks out the overflow.

  1. It is the float height. it needs to be adjusted correctly.


  2. Make sure the floats aren't sticking and that your gas cap is vented.

  3. check neadle and seat and float ajustment

  4. step one: remove carburetor

    step two: remove float bowl

    step three: inspect float height, it should close the needle valve near the pivot of the float arm, if it doesnt, bend the arm so that it does(this will cause overflow problem)

    step four: Inspect the floats themselves for holes or damage, put in a bown of water to see if they leak(this will also cause overflow problems) yamaha used both brass and plastic floats, brass you can solder the holes if you find one, if they are plastic, you can use a small dab of a fuel resistant sealant

    Buy floats if they are still availible though, you may need them down the road
