Plastic, they are easier to insert and remove because of the plastic lip.

Definitely plastic!!! I tried the cardboard and the non-applicator ones for awhile and I could never get them in (I think I was using the cardboard ones kind of incorrectly...) The plastic ones are a lot more comfortable. It always was painful before I tried plastic, but I tried Tampax Pearl Plastic ones and I didn't feel anything!!!!! No joke!! It was extremely easy.

Plastic for sure. A spoon or stir-stick will mix your drink better though.

so i suggest plastic
