Carden Bert nabs a shocking victory in Thursday’s Coral.co.uk Sprint at Hove
Carden Bert’s thrilling victory in the Coral.co.uk Sprint would have been a tough thing to digest for Forest Breeze’s fans. The black dog was one of the least favourite hounds in the competition, sent off with the odds of 12 to 1.
However, his brilliant run shocked the bookies, as S. Cahill’s trainee sealed the top position in the 285 metre long Grade OR heat at Hove.
Prior to the start, Forest Breeze was the centre of attention. The blue and brindle dog was enjoying the highest starting price of 4 to 7. He alongside the rest could not stand firm in front of Carden Bert’s marvellous speed and stamina.
The veteran hound kicked off the meeting from the fifth stall. Despite being crowded at first, Brett Lee’s son, out of Bell Sensation managed to retain a decent lead throughout the race. Courtesy of his error free run coupled with immense pace, the dog reached
the post in just 16.61 seconds, bagging a cash prize of £150.
Not only Carden Bert’s triumph, Killeacle Ruso’s second place was also a shocking result for some. The fawn dog fell 3 ¾ lengths adrift of the triumphant hound, but defeated, Forest Breeze by one length.
After starting his act from the fourth stand, B. Clemenson’s trainee took 16.91 seconds to complete his act. Confident Choice’s son, out of Ballymac Wish was sent at 10 to 1.
Forest Breeze could only seize the third slot, clocking the area in 16.99 seconds. He made a good impression early on, but failed to capitalize on his good start. After being crowded, the H. Dimmock’s trainee was left with no chance to overhaul the top two.
The fourth position was secured by the 4 to 1 second choice, Swabys Tony. The fawn dog was badly baulked at the first bend, and failed to end up among the first three by a length’s margin. He bridged the distance in 17.07 seconds.
Finnside Scolari at 14 to 1 finished fifth, whereas the last position went to Ardera Blaze .T Kibble’s trainee crossed the wire in 17.13 seconds, while the back marker’s final time was 17.27 seconds.
Carden Bert’s previous victory came in November last year. After a long wait, the black dog has finally provided his connections some delight.
