Cardiff Blues’ Martyn Williams unfit for next six weeks – Rugby news

Cardiff City Stadium based Welsh club, Cardiff Blues, have suffered a major blow to the 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro12 campaign as their experienced flanker, Marty Williams, has been ruled out of action with an injury for the next six weeks. Officials at the club
have confirmed the sidelining of the Wales international back row forwards player, Williams, in a statement released on their website on Monday, September 19.
Providing the details, officials have reported that Williams have broken his arm, during the Blues last RaboDirect Pro12 encounter against Ulster on Friday, September 16. Ulster defeated Blues 20 – 3 at Ravenhill, Belfast.
Williams injured his arm during the 67th minute of Friday’s game and was replaced by Thomas Young. Later he underwent a series of tests to investigate the full nature of the injury.  Following the results of the tests, officials announced Williams’
unavailability for next the month and a half.
The Pontypridd born Williams started his professional Rugby Union career with the local hometown club, Pontypridd RFC. In 1999 he left Pontypridd and joined Cardiff RFC, where he remained for four seasons.
At the start of the 2003/04 season, Williams joined the Celtic League outfit, Cardiff Blues. He joined the team as the captain and led them until 2005. He made his debut for the Blues against the Munster on November 28, 2003.
During his nine season stay at the club, Williams has made 135 appearances for Cardiff Blues in both domestic and European competition. He has also scored 85 points courtesy of his 17 impressive tries, which include five Heineken Cup competition tries.
The talented and experience flanker made his international debut for Wales, at the age of 20, in 1996 against the Barbarians.
The 36-year-old Williams so far has made 103 appearances for Wales and his omission from the Wales 2011 Rugby World Cup squad raised certain degree of criticism.
In the current season, Williams has started the starting xv, in Blues all three matches so far. His absence will surely affect their chances in their upcoming crunch games of the season.
