However, following his manifest struggles to cement his place in the Reds line-up, Bellamy had already hinted at his exit from Anfield in the summer, and expressed his desire of finishing his career at his home town club.
According to reports, the player has penned a two year deal with the Bluebirds, and completed his medical examination on Thursday.
The chief executive of Cardiff City, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Whiteley confirmed the forward’s signature by the club, and viewed it as a massive step forward in their bid to reclaim a place in the Premier League.
He issued a statement on the club’s official website, “I am sure that Liverpool will agree that their loss is this football club's gain and that Craig's return will be met with huge excitement and enthusiasm by all Cardiff City fans - and as the perfect
backdrop to the start of the new season.”
Whiteley also expressed his gratitude towards the Reds manager, Brendan Rodgers and the members of the Liverpool’s top hierarchy, for dealing the whole situation in a thoroughly professional manner, and was happy that the move was able to transpire without
any glitch.
He then went on to underline the remarkable work of the club’s Malaysian based investors in facilitating their growth and progression, and was also in awe for the manager, Malky Mackay for playing the lead role in the player’s transfer.
“I would also like to thank our manager for his tenacity and single mindedness in ensuring the transfer could take place - and for making my life a misery until such time as it could be completed!,” he added.
Bellamy is expected to join his team-mates at training before the next week, and will feature in the Bluebirds season opener against Huddersfield Town.
