Cardiff City striker holds talks over move to Leeds United
Cardiff City striker Ross McCormack is thinking about a possible move to Leeds United after holding talks with the Football League Championship newcomers.
Leeds have agreed an undisclosed fee for the 24-year-old, who has been in discussions over personal terms, and will undergo a medical exam with the Elland Road club.
More firepower needed
Leeds lost Jermaine Beckford to Everton under freedom of contract this summer and will need firepower if they are to establish themselves in the second tier of English football this season.
McCormack has been with Cardiff for two seasons after joining from Scottish Premier League (SPL) outfit Motherwell for a £110,000 fee. In 85 appearances in total for the Welsh outfit, the player has netted 28 goals — 23 of them in 44 games in his first season.
That fantastic form brought the attention of several clubs, who were then in the English Premier League. Portsmouth had declared their interest in securing McCormack's services, while Hull City had a bid of £4m rejected.
Struggled with form
However, McCormack struggled last season with poor form and injuries, which stopped him from building on his impressive first campaign. Meanwhile, the arrival on loan of Wales international captain Craig Bellamy from Manchester City meant that McCormack has fallen further down the pecking order this season, with Jay Bothroyd and Michael Chopra also ahead of him in manager Dave Jones’ thoughts.
Jones had suggested earlier this month that the striker would be allowed to move on with fellow Championship outfit linked with a move for him. McCormack featured in a League Cup tie against Burton Albion two weeks ago, where he netted twice in extra time to help the Bluebirds progress to the next round.
McCormack has also featured in five matches for Scotland, and scored his only international goal in a 2-1 win over Iceland in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
