Cardinals pick up option on Albert Pujols

The St Louis Cardinals have decided to exercise their 2011 club option on Albert Pujols.

The option is worth $16million and will keep the nine-time All-Star and three-time NL MVP with the club for his 10th season.

The decision is the least surprising move in baseball; with Pujols being the best player in baseball, $16 million is just too cheap a price to pass up on.

Pujols led the National League with 42 home runs and RBI’s for the first time with 118. The Cardinals did not release any mention of a contract extension with the first baseman, nor have they set a timetable for negotiations to begin.
