Cardinals’ quarterback John Skelton to continue starting in Kevin Kolb’s absence – NFL News
Despite his miserable performance, Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback John Skelton will remain a part of the team’s starting line-up as long as the regular quarterback Kevin Kolb is out due to an injury.
During the week eight game against Baltimore Ravens, Kolb left the match unfinished. Owing to a turf toe injury in his right foot, he missed the matches against St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers in the
week nine, 10 and 11 respectively.
Skelton, a fifth round pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, has started three games this season, and has managed four touchdowns, five interceptions and 636 yards. During the week 11 lost against San Francisco 49ers 23-7, his three passes
were intercepted. He completed only six passes of 19 attempts and managed 99 yards before being benched. Richard Bartel replaced him in the fourth quarter.
Cardinals’ coach Ken Whisenhunt has said that if Kolb stays injured, Skelton will start the game against St. Louis Rams in the week 12 game of the National Football League current season. However, he also said that Skelton will
have to improve his game.
"John didn't play his best yesterday," Whisenhunt said, "but he's got to bounce back. If he has to play this week, he's got to be ready to go.”
Kolb started his professional career after being drafted in the 2007 NFL Draft by Philadelphia Eagles. He was traded to Cardinals in 2011. He started all the games this season before receiving injury. His replacement, Skelton,
could not perform well on Sunday and the team suffered a defeat. Skelton himself is frustrated about his performance.
"I don't know. That's a frustrating thing when you get a question like that," he said. "You just don't know how to answer it. I guess normally you know how to turn it off and on and move on, but a game like that against a good
defence, it's hard to make a mistake and not let it affect you."
Cardinals have played 10 games in the season so far with three wins and seven defeats under their belt. With an average of 309.9 yards (216.4 passing yards and 93.5 rushing yards) per game, they are ranked at the third spot in
the National Football Conference West division.
