Cardinals’ wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald declared NFC Offensive Player of the Week – NFL News
Soon after overcoming Philadelphia Eagles 21-17 in the week 10 game of the National Football League current season, the jubilation for the Arizona Cardinals’ team and fans doubled when wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was declared
the National Football Conference Offensive player of the week.
In the victory against Eagles, Larry scored two touchdowns, took seven catches and managed 146 yards, leaving other offensive players of the league behind to become the outstanding player of the week and catch the glorious award.
A cherry on top of the cake is the fact that it is the first time Larry has received such an honour.
It is a welcome achievement for Cardinals as well, as the last time a wide receiver got acknowledged for them was in the year 1988 when Roy Green was awarded the title. Quarterbacks Kurt Warner and Jake Plummer have also received
this fame in the year 2009 and 2000 respectively, but a wide receiver grabbed the honour for Cardinals after more than two decades.
Larry’s opponents also admired him and acknowledge that he is one of the best players of the league.
“We always knew where No. 11 was and tried to contain him,” Eagles’ safety Kurt Coleman said after the game. “He’s a Pro Bowler and he’s one of the best for a reason. He got paid ‘x’ amount of bucks for that reason.”
Larry was drafted by Cardinals in the 2004 NFL Draft. He has 70 touchdowns with 658 catches. Not only Larry, but his teammates were also delighted on this achievement. They praised him and said that he could get such awards in
future as well.
“Larry’s Larry and like anyone else he wants the ball in his hands,” Cardinals’ quarterback John Skelton said. “You know, we dial up a lot of plays specifically for him and we try to get him the ball and touches as much as you
can. I mean, it’s just Larry being Larry, that’s what it is.”
The victory against Eagles was Cardinals’ third this season. They have lost six games and are ranked at third spot in the National Football Conference West division. The achievement might bring good omen for Cardinals as players
desperately seek to improve the stats this season.
