Cardioid and Limaçon?

How are these curves related, and why do thik the name cardioid is given to its curve?

  1. The limaçon is a polar curve of the form r = b+a•cos(ø).

    If a=b, the limaçon degenerates to a cardioid.

    Cardioid comes from the curve being heart-shaped.
