Cardion AB Motoracing reveal their 2013 MotoGP bike – MotoGP news
CRT entry Cardion AB Motoracing unveiled their Aprilia ART bike for the upcoming MotoGP season.
This will be second MotoGP season for the CRT team. They ran the 2012 season with a Ducati bike but, as was reported last year by AUTOSPORT in September last year, Cardion AB ended its association
with Ducati and opted for the Aprilia bike for 2013.
According to Cardion AB rider Karel Abraham, CRT riders will have a better chance to compete against prototype riders in the upcoming season.
“I believe there will be several opportunities during the season to race against the prototypes, since there are circuits where the differences between CRT bikes and prototypes are eliminated,”
Abraham said.
2012 proved quite disastrous for Abraham. Injuries caused a number of early retirements for the Czech rider. His best run in 2012 was a 7th place finish in the Valencia finale. Abraham finished
the season 14th on final riders’ standings and 64 championship points.
Having gotten his first feel of the Aprilia bike last year in Valencia, Abraham is hopeful that he will be able to have a better run this season.
“I had a good feeling about ART at Valencia during first testing, especially its cornering performance. We should have a better engine now and I cannot wait to ride the bike at Sepang,”
Abraham said.
Cardion AB manager Karel Abraham Sr. categorised the team’s move to CRT as a side step rather than a step backwards. He too spoke about the CRT bike and the chances CRT teams will have in
the upcoming season.
“ART is one of the best CRT motorbikes, [and] I believe CRTs will be able to match with prototypes. Plus, they will be much more visible thanks to the new qualification system,” Karel Abraham
Sr. said.
Including Cardion AB, a total of 13 MotoGP rider and 8 teams will be competing under the CRT rule in 2013. The likes of Colin Edwards, Danilo Petrucci and Michael Laverty will be riding under
the CRT rule.
Cardion AB have unveiled their 2013 MotoGP bike only after 4 days after Honda revealed its bike at Repsol's Madrid headquarters.
