Care Packages?

This may be dumb questions but, do you have to know someone in Iraq or wherever to send them a carepackage? Can you do it whenever or is there like a certain month to send them? Do you send them in normal carboard boxes?

  1. There are many local and Internet non-profit organizations that send things to soldiers.  Unfortunately, you can't just send a box of "goodies", you must have a name and address.

All the training bases have websites that you can get information on where to send "stuff".  The last time we did a shipment, they required a packing list taped to the outside of the package that listed everything that was inside the box.  They might be opening and inspecting all packages now before they are shipped out.  If you send the donations to the bases, they will forward the boxes for you (it costs alot in postage to ship it overseas yourself)

    Good luck

  2. Yes. You can go to: adoptaplatoon.com. You do not have to know anyone, care packages are always appreciated. Here are some things that you can send them. You can send them any time.

The most important form of support is the weekly card or letter! Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (do not add postage) along with a few sheets of paper. This will make it easier for your soldier to

write back should he/she have the opportunity to do so.

energy foods / breakfast and granola bars

    beef summer sausage / crackers

    non-melting candy / gum / cookies

beef jerky / tuna in pouches or pop top cans

    pop top cans of fruit

    pretzels / canned chips

raisins / trail mix, nuts dried fruit

    prepackaged snack foods

    bean and cheese dips

chips in a can to prevent crushing

    powdered sugared drink mixes

    tea bags and sugar packets

magazines (wrestling, boxing, sports, comic books)

    books

    stationary

    pens (black ink only)

word puzzle books & joke books

    puzzles

board games (chess, checkers, Monopoly, etc.)

    decks of cards

    newly released movies or movies

television shows you tape from tv

    Sunday comics

As well as toiletries, like toothbrushes and shaving cream and disposable razors. Have fun with it! It's a great way to cheer up a soldier. :)

  3. Just like your first answer, you'll have to have a name and address of a soldier or contractor that you want to send a care package to.  This must also contain your return address as well.  If a package comes here, without a name and address, then it is treated very suspciously.  We can't take that chance of someone sending potentially explosive or poisonous packages to our soldiers and contractors.  Everything is checked by dogs even before they leave the US.  Yes, you can send care packages in normal cardboard boxes, but make sure you get a marker and mark out all UPC (universal product codes) symbols on the boxes. There are also custom's forms that you have to fill out, which need to be filled out completely.  Thanks for thinking about us here.
