  1. They usually want magazines (nonreligious), toiletries,  small things that make life more comfortable (lotion, nail polish), and packaged foods like chips, crackers, etc.

  2. There are many organizations that help people to send care packages to anonymous soldiers or to specific people. You can try:

    Treat Any Solider or

    Solider Angels

    which both have web sites.

in addition, if you get in touch with the American Legion or any Vet organizations in the US they usually have projects that are on going so that you can help people from your own community.

    Great idea!

  3. My husband is currently deployed and I usually send him snack stuff such as trader joes peanut butter pretzels, packaged cookies, honey roasted nuts. I usually try to make it something he can share.  I usually throw is some magazines.

I wouldn't recommend chocolate as it is 130 degrees there now.  :)

Thank you for going the extra mile!  It is truly appreciated.

  4. i think you've gotten great suggestions so i have nothing to add in that area. i just wanted to commend you for your efforts and patriotism to our men and women serving this great country to keep us free and safe.

  5. There is a store in my area that collects care packages for soldiers in Iraq.

They recommend personal care products (health, grooming, comfort, etc) for men and women. If you send toilet tissue, take the cardboard roll out of the center and flatten the whole roll so it doesn't take up so much space.

They also list snack foods and powdered mixes, spices, etc

They request CD's, DVD's, disposable cameras, pre-paid phone cards, playing cards.

K-9 "troops" also request rawhide bones, flea shampoo, dog treats.

It's suggested that you can include a personal note, if you wish

  6. First off i want to say that you, my husband is over seas. Anything that makes them feel at home. Cookies, crossword books , thank you cards, just about any thing.

  7. There is a list on the usps website of things you are allowed to send, but they like toiletries and snacks.  If you don't know a soldier it is best to go with a group as you are not supopse to just mail them. contact your local national guard armory and talk to the unit and see how you can help.
