Question:

Care tips for Carnival Fish?

Hello! I just won 4 small fish from the Eden Corn Festival. They don't fight at all. They were selling food at the game too, so I bought some and I think they eat it, but they don't seem to like it that much. They're in a medium sized container that some dolls used to be in for now. We are going to get a medium sized tank, some rocks, I might buy a castle, and I'm looking for a different food.

Could anyone give me tips on what food to give them, and if I should buy a filter? Please don't say they will die, because almost everyone I know has a story about 7-year living fair fish. Thanks!

  1. Probably goldfish.  They can live over 10 years with proper care, AND get over 12-18 inches long when full grown, which will take a while.  Be prepared to get a 55 gallon + tank in the future if you plan on keeping them, or better yet keep them in an outdoor pond.

Goldfish are omnivores, so will eat almost anything.  Try well-rinsed, canned sliced green beans.  They love 'em.

  2. First, get a 125 gallon tank.  Those fish will get big, fast.  They will definitely need a filter, and a good quality one at that.  Go for 10x the gallons, i.e. a 29 gallon tank would need 290 gph filtration.  Here is a good forum that can help answer alot of questions.  There is a free forum there if you follow the link.  Good luck.

  3. those 4  small fish will probably grow so i would buy a

Anything like peas, zucchini, broccoli, pumpkin, just about anything so long as it is cooked and squashed up into little pieces that can fit in their mouths. It is better to avoid bread or crackers as these will swell up in the fish stomaches and make them sick.
