Career Advice: What do I want to do with myself? What kind of resources are there to choose a career?

Alright, so I'm in my 20s. I finished number 1 in my program in undergrad, and I'm number 1 in my top ranked graduate program. I've won every academic and leadership honor I could, and have lead the student governments and organizations I've been a part of with only great reviews. I've written a book, spoke in conferences, and even have patents in my name- I've gotten numerous, even high paying full time job offers, mostly for finance, investment banking, marketing, and general management- However, the thought of any of the jobs I've been looking at just seem completely unappealing. I know I'll be miserable in any of them. Theres got to be something I'm interested in, as I have a lot of interests, but I just haven't had any luck. I've worked through the guides in the career centers and the such, but with no luck- they are all limited to like 50 different job options.

I know not everyone has the luxury of being "picky" but since I do, how do I best find something I can enjoy doing so I am not miserable? I am a work-aholic, and in the short-term positions I have held such as internships and my own businesses, I've excelled. I just get bored with them way too fast- the only thing that keeps me going is the "hope" that theres something better down the road.

I'd love the variety in something like consulting too, but I can't stand travel (plus I physically don't fit in airplanes- i'm too tall unless I'm in first class or business class). I enjoy self employment, but I need some stability while I pay off my loans (Full ride for grad school, but undergrad loans still exist) I'm an alternative fuel engineer undergrad, MBA grad. I love anything to do with the automotive world, and I enjoy business. I'm most recognized for leadership, management, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

I kind of feel like a snob with what I'm saying- usually I don't like to rest on my past, and instead look to the future. I thought it may be necessary to get some good answers though! When I try to talk to career services they always brush me off and tell me most students would kill for the kind of offers I get. I just don't really fit in to the "system" I guess...

any help in identifying resources to help find the type of positions I may be interested in is appreciated.

Thanks!

  2. There is an awesome service we use at the community college where I work. It is free to our students, but I am sure you either have to go through a group or pay for the test but it is well worth it. It tests you on 3 levels. 1- what is most important to you in a career. 2- what you are good at 3- what you enjoy. Then it cross refrences them to help you choose what fields are best for you. It is called the kuder assesment. You can read about it at Kuder.com
