Question:

Career Plan, what to do when plan B appears to be failing

I graduated with a BA in Business Management in 2005. I struggled to find a graduate employer who'd offer me an interview.

I had a stint with a local building society for a few months that went really badly. I struggled with the pace of their training scheme & had to leave.

Last Sept I enrolled on a FT electrical installation course picking up level 1&2. To complete the level 3 NVQ I require an employer. College won't help. I have just sent out a couple of hundred letters.

This week I was doing DIY at home, tidying up & sanding some plaster. It made my nose & chest really bad. I'm wondering if this last year might have been a big mistake. I applied to companies earlier this year & didn't get much response. I am having doubts, and I do not visualise a way to resolve things.

  1. Why don't you look at starting your own business?

Or getting some careers advice to help you discover what it is that you really want to do?

Maybe you could join a temping agency and try lots of different jobs, there might be something that you fancy taking up as a career.

  2. Bus driver, they take anyone!!

  4. University can certainly be a bad idea, looks like the uni indulged you with lies. I would recommend a recruitment agency as they give you guidance or an adult training centre. You may be missing things out on your CV and letters, maybe you could get them seen to. I would also apply for jobseekers allowance (im not sure where youre from). But I cant stress how much that degree was a mistake those 3 or 4 may have been better with experience doing menial jobs. And you may have worked your way up by then. Hope things work out well and good luck.

  5. Start Plan C
