  1. One way you could start is to go into it as an invidividual consultant for a company, like Avon , Beauty Control ,Shaklee or Mary Kay. You'll learn more hands on that way. To legally touch someones face tho you will have to have a license.

Call up beauty schools & see how much it is to enroll. They don't have all the same price. Some will offer you internships as you go & you may be able to earn some of your expenses. Good luck.

  2. Two words: Network and Advertise and the best thing is both can cost zero to very little money.  But it does take time and lots of effort.  1st thing is to tell everyone you know what you are trying to do and that you are available and to tell everyone they know.  Having a business card ready would be great, your friends and family could pass them out.  You can get business cards relitively cheap at VistaPrint.com.  You need a pitch-a good one.  It sounds silly, but practice it!  Otherwise you may stutter or stumble over your words.  Your highlights are going to be weddings, prom, business seminars, etc.  Word of mouth (and passing out business cards) is is the best way to get your name out there. Also make sure to have a portfolio available for potential clients to see your work.

You can advertise for free in many local classified papers, penny savers, etc, or for minimal cost.  Just make a few phone calls or visit websites.  The web is another good place to advertise for free.  If you are good and put some hard work into it, you'll have clients before you know it.  Good Luck!
