I'm taking courses online for Psychology and I want to do something with teaching. I would love to teach at a college as a pyschology teacher but I don't know what else I need to do. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? I live in Pennyslvania if that helps at all because I know that different states have different rules regaurding teaching.... If there are any sites or books that you know of that I can do more research that would be great, thank you!

  1. Well, to be a professor of psychology at a college you would have to get your Ph D in psychology from a university. Then you'd probably have to do research/labs for a university's psychology department or else where and write about it.  After you publish a few books/papers while being an assistant professor eventually a university will hire you as a full time professor if you're lucky.  There's a lot of people that want to be professors and not a lot of jobs for them.

  2. Finally something I can answer. First off promise me one thing YOU WILL NEVER TEACH HIGHSCHOOL OR BELOW LOL... HORRIBLE JOB.. Anyways.. Once you get a Bachelors in psychology either BA or BS depending on your school you should for sure go after a Masters at least. A masters will make sure you can teach at a community college and some universities will allow you to be a visiting professor. If you want to tenur at a University you will need to get either a Ph.D. or Psy. D. in the psychological field. Sometimes a Ed.D in educational psychology will work. But remember at the University level they want you to contribute mroe then just teacher.. they want research and other stuff out of you. If you like just teaching and you like very open schedules you can work at a community college easily. You will get students who want to be in school unlike Highschool and there of. But a MS degree in psychology or educational psychology will allow you to teach but remember thats the minimum you can have. If you love school I would suggest getting the Ph.D. It will involve research but luckily just while your getting the degree. You can still teach at a Community College with a doctorate. and if you do some doctorates like clinical psychology, then you can actually practice!
