I want to be a teacher. For the last few years I had thought I might do a double major in college in elementary ed and special ed and eventually get a doctorate in both as well as other specialization in the special needs field. I wanted to teach in regular schools. I'm currently going into the tenth grade and have volunteered with special needs clildren since I was 11 and love it.However many people have suggested with my ambition and such I could do a lot more especially in the special needs field. So while I would love to be a teacher I was wondering what other majors/degrees/programs I could combine with special education? Also what other jobs could I do in the special needs field. I was thinking something in research, like development and such but am open to any suggestions. Also would like to be able to inteact with the kids if possible. So what kind of jobs fit this description, what would they entail, what classes could I take in prepartion for special ed teaching, and suggested

  1. I think you are already on a great start to a career by doing the volunteer work you have done. I have just graduated with a degree in special education and am currently looking for a job. It's not easy right now, so you are wise to be thinking of ways to diffirentiate yourself.

Look into speech and language pathology, which is in high demand. You can also look into getting a specialist degree (post bachelors degree). Most states  offer special certification in areas such as deaf, blind, behavior, autism, ect.. Another avenue would be physical therapy. This career could offer you jobs in a public schools or a number of other places.
