  1. Depends on your personality.  In regards to becoming a lawyer, this is a very broad field ranging from being a trial lawyer to writing wills and trusts.  Obviously you should research both fields, by utilizing the internet, discussing this with teachers/professors, talking to professionals that currently work in these occupations, and really find yourself and what you want out of life and your career.

Both options are certainly commendable professions to go into (lawyer jokes beside).  If you are investigative, desire the truth, are fact-based, enjoy research both a criminal investigator or a lawyer would work for you.

I'm not sure about a criminal investigator, but I do believe that becoming a lawyer requires more schooling (i.e. 4-year college degree, than law school.  In terms of salary, both pay above average wages, but both require long hours.  A lawyer's salary ranges from a low of $45,000 or so to a high of $500,000 and more.  It all depends on what you specialize in, if you are independent or in a practice, geographic location, and so on.
