Career or life: Pittsburgh Steelers DB Troy Polamalu takes it day to day -NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive back or safety, Troy Polamalu, says he thinks of his pro career ending anytime, an unusual and rather scary confession by a National Football League (NFL) player.
Polamalu says he lives his life day to day and the matter of years is not in his consideration. Therefore, he thinks of his career ending “all the time.”
The player, who prefers to work out on his own during the offseason, turned up for organised team activities (OTAs) last week to the much surprise of his bosses and teammates.
A section of media has quoted a local newspaper’s writing about the player’s life mantra. He is quoted as saying:
"People have asked me how many years do you think you can play? My reaction is always, when you live day to day, it's hard to talk years.”
Polamalu added:
“It's always been my mantra in life, whether it was my first year as a rookie or year 10, I just live day to day."
He said to have turned up for OTAs to compensate the absence of many defensive players who have been released by the team to adjust its salary expense.
The safety has taken the role of a leader along with linebacker, Larry Foote, to share his burden of additional workout due to the departure of James Farrior, who has been cut by the team under the same salary cap issue.
He said of Foote:
"You hate to put that kind of load on Larry. You can't say that even James Farrior was going to be exactly the same kind of leader Joey (Porter) was. And he wasn't. I'm sure Larry can be a leader on this defense, but he won't be the exact leader that James
Farrior was, for sure."
Back to the life mantra, Polamalu said it has remained his belief from very beginning of the pro career.
