Careers in Animal Health or well being?

Question

I am looking for a career in animal health or well being. I can't afford to go for a Vet or a Vet Tech. Is there anything else I could go for and still be able to work one on one with animals. I prefer domestic animals, and I have a soft spot for saving or caring of animals in need.
