I'm planning to become a police officer and patrol... but i was wondering what about after about 18 years or so when you don't wanna patrol anymore. What are some promotions or different jobs you can get into after wards?

  1. Normally a department has a set rotation.  Once you have trained in patrol you are able to rotate through the different departments.  WHen you get a certain age you normally are a Agent, Sgt, Lt, and that has the ability to get into the other areas.  Detectives etc.  Good career

  2. You may advance and stay in patrol as a supervisor. You may move to other divisions, such as investigations. There are other areas, things like community relations, crime prevention (largely public speaking and setting up neighborhood watch programs), and others. You will likely be going for advancements in rank much sooner than 18 years, although there are officers who are perfectly happy as senior patrol officers and don't want the supervisory duties.
